Caring For Children And Retaining Families: The Gaps In Military Childcare

After completing this step, family users will be instructed to check their email to complete their account using the one-time account activation link. Families have 48 hours to select a link and set up an account If they do not complete their account within 48 hours, the account will be deleted and the family must start the process over.

Once the family logs in with their new associated CAC or their username and password, they will be taken to the My MCC dashboard.

It provides information necessary to (a) determine the family's priorities for care; So we make sure that the most mission-critical families get childcare first; (b) help families find care that fits their needs; (c) ensure that users of the Program have the information they need to provide customer support; and (d) inform management of the childcare needs of service members

To create their household profile, the family is guided through a series of questions to gather data. To help personalize the experience for families, the information gathered during the process is personalized based on the answers to previous questions. In addition, tooltips are provided to help families understand how to access the information, why the information is being collected, and what it will be used for. Tooltips are marked with a '?'

To get started, from the My MCC dashboard, households should select the My Household Profile button in the Time Sensitive Actions section of their dashboard.

Next, the family user completing the household profile must indicate whether they are a sponsor or a spouse and select the Next button to continue.

Note: DoD assigns priority to each sponsor/spouse type employment status combination to ensure that the most mission-critical families receive child care first. If both the designated sponsor and the spouse are eligible military child care sponsors, the system determines which type of sponsor gives the family the highest priority and assigns that priority to the family, regardless from whether the family was chosen as the sponsor first. The type of sponsor and employment status of the spouse should be checked before the family enrolls the child in care to ensure that the family is properly prioritized.

If the family member completing the profile is the sponsor, they must answer 'yes' or 'no' to the question, Does the sponsor have a spouse? If the spouse is completing the profile, the question will be marked 'Yes' and the spouse's name will be filled in automatically.

Spouse's Branch of Service If a spouse is attached to the military, the family chooses the branch of service to which the spouse is attached.

Spouse's type of employment If the spouse is working/non-military, the family chooses the type of employment that is best for the spouse. The selection list is in order of preference, so if the spouse falls into more than one type of employment, the on-screen instructions will prompt them to select the first option that applies. Note: If the spouse is a Child Development Program employee or a DoD civilian, the family then selects the affiliated service branch.

Details of employer/spouse education Families should enter information about the education or employer of the spouse Helps leaders better understand and plan for childcare in the community

If a family is a type of military family, which can be relocated, they will be asked to accept the supplement policy before saving their family. If the family cancels from the household profile before accepting the supplement statement, the supplement policy will be added to the list of standard policies that the family must accept before the household status is complete.
